80's Movie Weekend



In 1987, we saw the biographical release of "La Bamba" starring Lou Diamond Phillips as Ritchie Valens. The drama is based on the real life events that affected the lives of the rock star, his half-brother Bob Morales, his girlfriend Donna Ludwig and the rest of their families.

Valens, Buddy Holly, and The Big Bopper were killed in an airplane crash during a snow storm on February 3, 1959 just as Valens career was starting to really take off

I would argue that Valens biggest hit is probably the biggest non-English song of all-time in the U.S. It was a top 25 song back in 1959 for Valens, but went all the way to #1 when it was remade for this movie back in 1987.
