Here's A Little Story

This is the first time I've had a chance to post about the passing of Beastie Boy Adam Yauch, aka "MCA." The Beastie Boys "Licensed to Ill" was one of the first cassette rap tapes I bought. I wore it out along with LL Cool J's "Bad" cassette and DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince's "He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper." I loved this song from the Beastie Boys and Adam "MCA" Yauch will be sorely missed from the trio. Here is the track "Paul Revere"...

Happy Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Weekend!

Today, The Excellent 80's is honoring a few of the bands being inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland tomorrow. We have the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Beastie Boys, and Guns N Roses to name three of the biggest acts being inducted tomorrow.

Let's kick off The Excellent 80's party today with the Chili Peppers...

I realize this is not an 80's song, but it's pretty dang close considering this song came out 21 years ago in 1991 and was probably the group's most popular album. From the Chili's fifth studio album, "Blood Sugar Sex Magik," here is "Give It Away"...

Now, onto Guns N Roses, which is an interesting story in itself because Axl Rose has declined his invitation into the Hall of Fame for personal reasons. So, there will be no reunion, and as best I can tell it is mostly due to his personal issues with Slash. Anyway, they made some awesome music for many years in the late 80's and early 90's. Here is their 1989 hit "Patience"...

That Funky Monkey

The Beasties are back today with another classic from their "Licensed to Ill" album. Today's song a tribute to an alcoholic beverage by the same name. Though there was never an official video to this song, here is a concert shot video from one of their early DVD's. Just put your left leg down, your right leg up, and enjoy this cut of "Brass Monkey"...

#70

Do you like parties? We can invite all of our friends and serve soda and pie. Back in 1987, the world was introducing to three young hellions known as Mike D, MCA, and Ad-Rock that put together a little album called Licensed to Ill and broke through big time with today's little video that probably cost $200 to make.
Sure this song was way overplayed back in the day and is supposed to be a parody on other party songs, and is even despised by the group themselves. Nevertheless, it remains an 80's staple and showed the world that yes, white guys can rap... and have wicked cream pie fights too.

She's Got a Gold Tooth, You Know She's Hardcore

The follow up album to "Licensed to Ill" was "Paul's Boutique," an album with less commercial appeal and more creative depth... today's video features the only charting single from it... with some sweet disco moves and clothes, here are the Beastie Boys from 1989 with one of my favorites from the group - "Hey Ladies"...
