I don't care what you think about today's video/song at #20. I admit it - it's a guilty pleasure of mine, so there. It will also remind you that guilty feet have got no rhythm. Love that line. It's probably my favorite slow jam of the 80's and what would my top 80 countdown be without some George Michael in it I ask? It would be nothing! There's a scene early in the video of George, a girl, and his boombox. My bet would be kids these days would see that thing and say 'what is that?' I love the saxophone riff at the beginning of this #1 Billboard Hit from 1984 (26 years ago? really?) as The Excellent 80's moves on into the top 20.

OK, class. Once upon a time there was s movie called "Desperately Seeking Susan," which was a critical failure, but really not THAT bad of a movie. Anyway, it starred Rosanna Arquette, Aiden Quinn, and the one and only Madonna. Here is the hit single, which was a #1 dance hit, she included on its' soundtrack and probably my favorite Madonna song. I just like to get up and dance when it comes on.

We're almost to the top 20, and today's video/song was a top 10 hit for a San Francisco based band known as The Tubes. This video received tons of airplay on MTV, and personally, I watched it just to see the mermaid. She was hot. That, and to see the magical transformation from horny teen ager to some old geezer by the end of the video. Check it out!

If there's one thing I learned from this video, it's that zombies just want to dance. They're not after our brains or our internal organs, they're just after a rock anthem they can bust a move to. So, with that, I bring you the classic 1981 hit from the man born William Michael Albert Broad featuring some determined zombies, and some awesome special effects. You shouldn't play around with electricity unless you're as cool as William Michael Albert Broad, or as he's more commonly known as - Billy Idol.

Long before she became Mrs. John McEnroe, Patty Smyth was a rockin' lead singing chick with an attitude for a group called Scandal. The Excellent 80's countdown continues to roll on with the group's biggest hit. I love the song and the video is so campy and bad, that it's almost good. I love Patty's hair when they fix it standing straight up in the video. Everybody now - bang! bang! I am The Warrior.

There were just a lot of cool elements that make up today's song/video at #25. First of all, the soundtrack to the movie of the same name is awesome, and I'd be remiss if I didn't say that the keyboard playing doctor makes this video the great work of art that it is. Even though this dude is only about three feet tall, all the women loved his sexiness and most of the dudes even had to admit they liked him. The purple one pushes us into the top 25 here with a song about birds crying. I'm off to take my hot bath wearing a scarf.

One of my favorite rock ballads today at #27 for you by the band formed in 1987 in New Jersey. With a lead singer who has the first name of Sebastian, you can't go wrong! And with a nostalgic ballad like this it was all over proms around the country. It was the quintessential "memories" song during 1989-90 and will forever remind me of my senior year of high school and the many lawns I mowed that summer of 1989 with Skid Row blasting in my ears - particularly this song.

It's getting serious. The Excellent 80's is up to #28 on the Top 80 Countdown of the most popular songs/videos of that era as voted on by a panel of one. If you were going to be a great movie in the 80's, it always helped to have a great song, and today's #28 song/video may have been better than the movie, which was called "St. Elmo's Fire." After all, the song did reach #1 on the Billboard charts in 1985 and was the biggest hit for the English musician by the name of John Parr.

Well, back in 1984, Milton's son was the manager for an unknown glam-metal band named formed in San Diego named Ratt. It's another classic example of what made the 80's so great today as we turn back the clock to the summer of 1989 when we could enjoy the scenery of Cher's butt onboard the USS Missouri. This video was originally banned by many stations and only played after 9 pm on MTV, but what a video it was. Cher's son, Elijah Blue is seen with dark glasses and a Hendrix t-shirt on jamming on guitar in some scenes while some sex-crazed sailors are whooping it up. At the time, Cher was a very fit and fine looking 43 years old.

I saw today's artist in concert about a year ago with his daughter and he still has that same "I seem like I'm really drunk" look and act to him, but I think that's just him. He used to be an alcoholic, but apparently kicked that habit years ago. He still performs his little spin move that you see in today's video and dons the sunglasses for many of his performances. This is my favorite song by the former police officer born Edward Joseph Mahoney. Just remember to call Rosanna - it's a hell of a show!

Peter Gabriel is an honorary African! At least that's what I get from the live version of his hit song from the "Say Anything Soundtrack" coming in at #35 in the Top 80 Countdown. The video could have been better. Like for instance, he could have had John Cusack up on stage standing and holding a boom box over his head the whole song. You didn't think there would be any country in this countdown did you? Well, bam! It's my favorite 80's country song and probably my favorite song by the artist known as George Harvey Strait. Though not a Strait original song, this is by far the most popular version of the song, but it didn't even make #1 on the country charts peaking somewhere around #4 back in 1983. You immediately thought, "he's talking about "Vision Quest". You know it. It's Madonna at her ballad best in this movie that starred Matthew Modine and his older love interest, Linda Fiorentino. In 1982, the British new wave band called Modern English produced this under-appreciated song that barely cracked the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S. The song is still a classic, though the video was less than exciting featuring lead singer Robbie Grey sporting a policeman's hat and featuring a couple of dancers for some reason. 1984 and 1985 found "The Boss" at the height of his stardom, and it featured this hit of his that is only appropriate here in The Excellent 80's. It's a narrative about remembering the old days and how great it was. I think any former athlete can relate to this song. Plus, Clarence Clemons is working that cowbell at the beginning of the video - love it. In the wink of a young girl's eye, the 80's passed us by. It's one of my all-time favorite hair-metal ballads coming in today at #40 on The Excellent 80's Top 80 countdown. Long before "Rock of Love" and his appearance (and win) on "The Celebrity Apprentice", Bret Michaels, C.C. Deville, Rikki Rocket, and Bobby Dall were pushing the hair-metal envelope with their colorful behavior and hit records. This power ballad may not have been a favorite of C.C.'s and maybe it led to other hair-metal bands doing the same thing as the hair-metal bands slowly died out during the last of the 80's and early 90's, but it still remains a classic and a favorite of mine.

The great thing about our second U2 video in the countdown is that this video garnered some heavy air play because of the way it was shot with the band on the rooftop of a building in L.A. which eventually led to them being shut down by the police over safety concerns because of all the people showing up to watch the performance. Great song, great video, but what else would you expect from Bono and the crew.

Today's song became a late bloomer despite being a top 20 hit back in 1988. When a little indy film called "Napoleon Dynamite" came out, this song was featured over the end credits, and regained some long overdue respect for the classic 80's song that it has become. If it were up to me, I would make this band reunite and re-shoot this video with some killer tetherball video to go along with it, and the winner receiving a delicious bass as a 1st place prize. That's my suggestion. Until then, the classic 1988 video by this British band will have to do.

Wakie, wakie, everyone. We're up to #45 on the Excellent 80's top 80 countdown of the best videos/songs of the 80's as composed by a panel of one - me. I told you at the beginning you would see a lot of videos you would expect to see, and then there would be some songs/videos that weren't even the artist's biggest hit like today's feature. It's probably my all-time favorite song - solo or with his world famous group known as The Police. When Sting was flying solo he put out this gem that actually did well on the charts and I still love to this day. Today's video is a top 10 hit from 1981 from the band called Journey. It's a song that has actually gained momentum through the years thanks to karaoke bars and also thanks to the cast of the tv show "Glee." The band also featured American Idol judge Randy Jackson from 1985-87. Here is a hopelessly boring live performance with lead singer Steve Perry in some ultra high-waisted too tight jeans and a crazy shirt that looks like it's straight out of a Flintstones' cartoon. You know, The Excellent 80's wasn't hitting in New York, and they axed me what I was gonna do about it. So I did what today's artist did, I turned this mutha out! Most known for his hits like "U Can't Touch This" and "2 Legit 2 Quit" and his money problems soon after, today's video/song will always be my favorite MC Hammer jam. The thing that I hated is that if you bought this cassette back in 1988 like I did then you remember that it is a shortened version of this song on the tape. So, that's why I much prefer the extended version brought to you with today's video in at number 47 on my countdown. The Excellent 80's is an eagle and you a dove! Oooohhh!

I was heading into my senior year in high school when these guys took the rock world by storm. No make-up, no hair spray, just five bad-asses intent on rocking the world. And rock they did for a good five or six year stretch as there was no bigger rock group during the late 80's and early 90's than Guns N' Roses. The guitar riff for this song from the top-hatted one apparently started off as a joke and not anything that Slash is particularly fond of, but once it all came together and with the sincere vocals of Axl Rose it became a huge hit reaching #1 on the U.S. Billboard charts.

Who rocks the cello and makes it look cool while riding all the way to #1 with a song? Only one man with only one name. OK, he was born Gordan Mathhew Sumner, but most everyone knows him as Sting. Back in 1983, I was living in Seminole, Oklahoma, and I remember walking the couple miles it was to the local Wal-Mart and buying the cassette tape that features today's song/video. I didn't realize it was a creepy stalker song at the time, but it didn't matter to me then and it doesn't matter to me now. The countdown is now into the top 50, and if there is one thing I could change about the CBS hit drama NCIS Los Angeles, it's that I would make sure LL Cool J wore a Kangol throughout every show. Born in 1968, this dude never seems to get old. He's probably my favorite rapper of all-time and that goes back to his debut album when he was only 17. When he was 19 is when he really started to blow up with the release of his "Bad" album which featured today's song/video. It's one of the best slow jam raps of all-time, and one that I still know all the lyrics to. I'm just glad my dad never bust into my room and ripped down my LL poster or we would have thrown down!
