I Was Walking In, He Was Walking Out

Happy Labor Day to you all! I hope you are all taking it easy today. In honor of today, the Excellent 80's brings you a song and video from Mr. Bluecollar everyman himself... The Boss. I've always loved this song and video, and even though it's been in here before, I bring it to you again. Do you remember who "got" the Boss in the bottom of the 9th? Here is Bruce with "Glory Days"...

Hey Little Girl is Your Daddy Home

Happy Friday everyone! Today's video won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Male Video in 1985. It's a dramatic portrayal given by The Boss himself as an auto mechanic who tunes up the same vintage Thunderbird every week that's dropped off by a well to do woman living the high life. It's a short little number but became Springsteen's fourth top-10 hit off of his "Born in the U.S.A." album. Here is "I'm On Fire"...

There's A Joke Here Somewhere, and it's on Me

This 12 minute video outtakes of Bruce Springsteen dancing to his hit song "Dancing in the Dark" have made the rounds on the viral airwaves recently. I didn't watch the whole 12 minutes. I think the first four minutes, heck, maybe the first four seconds are enough to get the idea that Bruce's dancing was a little lacking back in the day. On the plus side, the big man, the late Clarence Clemons struts his stuff during the sax solo at the end of the song...

Born Down in a Deadman Town

Happy Fourth of July! We're taking a one day break from our Top 80 countdown to celebrate our nation's birth... the ironic thing about today's song is that it was regarded by many as a happy, rockin' U.S.A anthem, but instead really finds Bruce talking about the difficulties of Vietnam veterans back in 1984 and as Americans chased the American dream... still, it's an upbeat track and, well, let's all be proud to be "Born in the U.S.A." today!

#39

1984 and 1985 found "The Boss" at the height of his stardom, and it featured this hit of his that is only appropriate here in The Excellent 80's. It's a narrative about remembering the old days and how great it was. I think any former athlete can relate to this song. Plus, Clarence Clemons is working that cowbell at the beginning of the video - love it. In the wink of a young girl's eye, the 80's passed us by. Time does slip by us and leaves us with nothing but boring stories of...

Think I'm Going Down to the Well Tonight

I'm going to drink til I get my fill... one of my top three favorite Springsteen songs for you to kick off the weekend with... his pitching motion is lacking, but any former athlete (myself included) can totally relate to this song, because your glory days of playing will pass you in the wink of a young girl's eye... I love the Graig Nettles reference at the end of the video in Bruce's "loss" to San Diego... have a great weekend and check out the Boss and reflect back on the 80's and your own "Glory Days"...
