Superbowl Weekend - Who Dey Gonna Win?

Ahh, it's Superbowl weekend and the Steelers and Cardinals prepare to take the field tomorrow with another Superbowl championship at stake. For today's post, let's travel back 20 years to 1989 when the Cincinnati Bengals took on the San Francisco 49ers lead by Joe Montana and Jerry Rice.

The 49ers scored with about 30 seconds left in the game when Joe Montana found John Taylor for the winning touchdown 20-16...

The Bengals lost the game, but will forever have this classic music video to fall back on... here are the Cincinnati Bengals with the "Who Dey Rap"...

We're going to wrap up our "LL Cool January" with the one of LL's best (that's already been featured in The Excellent 80s once)... a slow rap that at the time I thought was so unique and incredible because up until this point most rap was either boasting or about growing up in the hood, etc., etc., here is LL Cool J with "I Need Love"...

Let's Travel Around the World

One of the best group names to come along in the 1980s, this band only enjoyed modest commercial success, but had a huge "underground" following... does anyone else think the lead singer, Joe Genaro, sounds like Weird Al Yankovich?... formed in 1983 in Philadelphia here is The Dead Milkmen with their most popular MTV video, "Punk Rock Girl"...

Today's British pop band was formed in 1985 and hit it big once this side of the pond with today's video and song... it's Living In A Box with "Living In A Box"... oh, how I love bands that sing songs that are the same name as their group... the coolness factor is off the charts...

Oh, Baby, Do You Know What That's Worth?

Today I bring you creepy kids with masks holding glow-in-the-dark globes... scary... ooohhh! Just kidding. The only thing remotely scary is the song which drove me crazy back in 1987, but I don't discriminate in the Excellent 80's just because I didn't like a particular song... here is the then sexy 29 year old Belinda Carlisle showing some shoulder (can you believe she turned 50 last year!?) with her only #1 hit - "Heaven On Earth"...

Today's newbie into The Excellent 80's is the band General Public... don't remember them? That's ok, because there's not much to remember... as far as I can tell, this was their only hit in the 80s (though they did chart in 1994 with "I'll Take You There")... anyway, featured in the movie "Weird Science", and years later in the movie "Clueless," here is General Public with "Tenderness"...

Want to Whisper Sweet and Tender in Your Ear

What the hell was Billy Ocean thinking with this video? Apparently his Star Wars fascination got the better of him with all the weird looking creatures in this video... where was Han Solo blasting Greedo or Jabba the Hutt in all of this I ask?... I actually enjoyed this song back in 1985, but I could do without seeing this video ever again... here is some jacked up looking creature riding a horse on a beach near Durdle Dor in England and the video for Billy Ocean's "Loverboy"...
