I Will Be With You Again

Happy New Year! I usually take off Sunday, and since this is my first post of 2012, I'd like to get it started with a song that I've begun other years here on my blog with. It's the fitting title "New Year's Day" by the one and only U2. So, get out your horse, and go riding through the snowy woods. The Snow's Coming Down

Today's 80's Christmas video and song are easily one of my top two or three favorite 80's Christmas songs. I consider it a legendary Christmas performance by a legendary band still going strong to this day. Maybe this song needs to go out to a loved one of yours. The song originated in 1963 sung by Darlene Love, but for my money this two minutes and 18 seconds of Christmas singing pleasure is the best version. It's U2 with "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)"...

Live Aid Anniversary

Wow, I almost let the day go by without a mention that today is the 25th anniversary of Live Aid held both at Wembley Stadium in London and also at JFK Stadium in Philly. Organized by Boomtown Rats' Bob Geldof, the two events drew over 170,000 people total and helped raise money and awareness for famine relief in Ethiopia. There were appearances made by U2, Sting, Elton John, Madonna, Rick Springfield, Run DMC, and Bryan Adams among many others. Also rememberable was the fact that Phil Collins, thanks to a concorde flight across the Atlantic, played both concerts that day.

It's not often that I get to post any Queen in here, but thanks to their performance at Live Aid in 1985, here is piece of their performance...



Now I know I've never got to post any Zeppelin in here until today, but thanks to their reunion of sorts for Live Aid, here is a piece of their performance from that historic day... even though it wasn't a great performance by many standards (including theirs), it's still Zeppelin!

The great thing about our second U2 video in the countdown is that this video garnered some heavy air play because of the way it was shot with the band on the rooftop of a building in L.A. which eventually led to them being shut down by the police over safety concerns because of all the people showing up to watch the performance. Great song, great video, but what else would you expect from Bono and the crew.

In today's video, I like the black and white to color transition and I like the on the street scene that is created by one of the best bands of all time - U2. In this video I learned that The Edge is not smiling for anyone no matter how hard Bono sings in his face and I also learned that Bono must have been searching for some dance lessons at the end of this video. Whatever the case, I hope U2 has found what they've been looking for.
