Merry Christmas! I Love You!

Next to Wham's "Last Christmas" song and video that I posted yesterday, I love today's in studio production  done at MTV with Billy Squier and all of the original MTV VJ's.  I love you Excellent 80's viewers and I love this video!  Here is "Chrismas is the Time to Say I Love You"...

MTV Basement Tapes

Remember The Blases, Spot the Dog, Lopez Beatles, or Bombay? No? Don't worry, because unless you watched the MTV Basement Tapes competition then you probably never heard or saw any of these bands. Hosted by MTV's Martha Quinn with help from her co-host, a young Billy Crystal, the fifth installment of the MTV Basement Tapes winner in this 1985 clip was...

Give Me a Call Sometime

Yesterday was some Kool and the Gang, so today is some Van Halen for you as The Excellent 80's prepares to take in the Van Halen concert in Tulsa on May the 1st. Even though this song is technically from 1978, here is concert footage from 1982, with the band knocking out "Jamie's Cryin'"...

As a bonus today, check out a 1984 interview between MTV's Martha Quinn and David Lee Roth...

Christmas Is the Time to Say I Love You

There's something so Christmasly 80's about this in-studio video performance by Billy Squier as he's joined by the MTV cast. It's just a very happy, very jolly performance that takes me back to a simpler place in time. I always enjoy whomever the woman is who dressed up like Santa. I would like to know who that is someday. Until then, enjoy the MTV gang from 1981 and Billy Squier, and Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones from The Excellent 80's! Here is "Christmas is the Time to Say I Love You"...

MTV VJ's Part 1

I saw this picture the other day of the original MTV VJ's (minus J.J. Jackson who passed away in 2004)

A MTV reunion weekend from way back in 1990. This clip features Martha Quinn and Alan Hunter...

Check out this quick interview that Martha Quinn has with David Lee Roth at the MTV Video Music Awards... typical Dave...

Here's Mark Goodman and a backstage interview from 1983 with Missing Persons...

Christmas Is the Time to Say I Love You

I posted this here last year, and I couldn't help but post it again because it's so 80's. It captures the look and the feel of the 80's and incorporates all of the original MTV VJ's except Alan Hunter (R.I.P. JJ) all singing together as the chorus to Billy Squier's "Christmas Is the Time to Say I Love You." What do you want to bet Billy took Nina back to his place for a little Christmas cheer afterwards? Merry Christmas everyone!

Christmas is the Time to Say I Love You

A classic 80's MTV Christmas video clip... Billy Squier is in studio along with the MTV VJs and the workers of MTV to sing his song "Christmas Is The Time To Say I Love You"... you have to love the swaying audience, the rythmic clapping of JJ Jackson, Mark Goodman, Martha Quinn and of course Nina Blackwood, who looked like she was sizing Billy up the whole song... but where was my man, Alan Hunter? I don't see him in this video if he was there.. anyway, Merry Christmas everyone and enjoy!

Rock and Roll Christmas

One week til Christmas and for those of you that want a "Rock and Roll Christmas," here is George Thorogood and the Destroyers hanging out with some of those crazy MTV VJs and spreading some yuletide cheer...

Let's have a rock and roll Christmas,
Just like we used to know
Yeah, a rock and roll Christmas,
And I'll meet you by the mistletoe
We'll rock around the tree,
Go Santa, go, go, go

I want a Chuck Berry record, and a picture of Elvis too
A pair of ice skates for my baby, Peggy Sue
Yeah, and a phonograph player so I can rock and roll with you

Let's have a rock and roll Christmas,
Just like we used to know
Yeah, a rock and roll Christmas,
And I'll meet you by the mistletoe
We'll rock around the tree,
Go Santa, go, go, go

(Sax solo)

Little sister will be up before dawn's first light
With her eyes wide open when she sees those Christmas lights
Yeah and Mom and Pop, they won't get no sleep tonight

Let's have a rock and roll Christmas,
Just like we used to know
Yeah, a rock and roll Christmas,
And I'll meet you by the mistletoe
We'll rock around the tree,
Go Santa, go, go, go

Rock, rock, rock and roll Christmas
Rock, rock, rock and roll Christmas
Rock, rock, I sure don't want to miss it
Rock, rock, rock and roll Christmas
Rock and roll Christmas like we used to know

(Guitar Solo)

Rock, rock
Rock, rock
